The Much-Vaunted Copy-Editing of The New Yorker

One sentence from the article "The Humbling of Eliot Spitzer," by Nick Paumgarten, in the current (December 10th) issue of The New Yorker, on page 80:
Cuomo, the son of the former governor Mario Cuomo, who was a Secretary of Housing and Urban Development in the Clinton Administration, ran unsuccessfully for governor five years ago.
So -- who exactly was a Clinton HUD Secretary? I don't expect that kind of muddy referent from the New Yorker...
